Energy diversification, investments in the capacity of the electricity system and the challenges facing the Ministry of Energy team: these were the main highlights of Deputy Minister Krassimir Nenov’s speech at the Bulgarian-Korean Energy Forum held in Sofia on July 20, his ministry said on Thursday.
Korean Ambassador Jongin Bae highlighted the similarities in the energy challenges facing Bulgaria and South Korea. Both countries have a dependence on fossil fuels, but at the same time they are nuclear countries with ambitious development projects in this sector. He expressed a desire for energy cooperation between the two countries, including the field of renewable energy.
Deputy Minister Nenov highlighted the priorities and tasks for the ministry, including updating the key Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan, adjusting the draft territorial plans for a fair transition and preparing a vision for the renegotiation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan with the European Commission.
He stressed that Bulgaria has made progress in diversifying its nuclear fuel supply and next year expects the first refill with the new nuclear fuel at Kozloduy NPP Unit 5. At the same time, the construction of a new nuclear power plant is underway and the project is in the preliminary engineering phase.
