Parliament tasked the Minister of Energy to conduct negotiations on the terms and conditions under which Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) would acquire up to 20% stake in the consortium-holder of the contract for the prospecting and exploration of oil and natural gas in Block 1-21 Khan Asparuh in the Black Sea. The draft decision came from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and There Is Such a People MPs.
The prospecting is to be conducted within 60 days of the decision coming into force, and the Energy Minister is to prepare a report on the results to be submitted to the National Assembly, the lawmakers voted.
According to the sponsors, the Bulgarian State should be a shareholder, because in addition to the concession royalties, which it will receive by law without being a shareholder and which are 30% of turnover, additional funds will be received.
One reason it would be good for BEH to become a partner in Block 1-21 Khan Asparuh is the fact that neighboring Romania and Turkiye have already discovered huge amounts of natural gas, which are in close proximity – within a few kilometers, to the borders of Block 1-21 Khan Asparuh.
