Vazrazhdane: “State Is Empty of Meaning”

As he addressed Parliament on the opening sitting of its autumn session, Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said that the State has become “empty of meaning”, accused the power-holders of betraying the national interests and even of committing high treason. He used the opportunity to tell the story of a Bulgarian who is facing a trial in Greece and extradition to the United States to face charges of violating the US sanctions against Russia. He said the Bulgarian state has failed to do anything to protect him.

He said that case is “symptomatic of how the Bulgarian State has developed in the past 34 years”.

He went on to mention a visit to the Central Election Commission by the British Ambassador, questioned the diplomats right to make such visits and said that was “a brutal interference in domestic affairs” and “high treason by the power-holders”.

He also mentioned the recent killing of Alexey Petrov and said that Continue the Change co-leader Kiril Petkov should have been remanded to explain Petrov’s role in the formation of the government, as exposed earlier on Friday by GERB leader Boyko Borissov.

Further on, he spoke about a deadly case of people taking justice in their own hands because they don’t believe in the judicial system.

He warned that the country “is faced with a national catastrophe”, “is about to enter a war” and that all this will have “a lethal end for Bulgarian statehood”.
