Sofia City Court reduced the bail set by the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office for oligarch Vassil Bojkov from BGN 1,500,000 to BGN 500,000, the court’s press centre said. The decision of the court is final.
The bail was imposed for charges against Bojkov for participating in an organized criminal group, money laundering and illegal activities related to cultural property.
The court took into account that there was a well-founded assumption of the commission of numerous and different in nature criminal acts, which imposed a high level of public danger. In its decision, the court indicated that the measure was correctly determined in its nature, but it was excessively high. The reason is that the accused is under house arrest in another case, which limits his opportunities to carry out full economic and labour activities. In addition, the accused is banned from leaving the country and various protective measures have been imposed on most of his property.
On September 5, the Sofia Appellate Court imposed house arrest with an electronic bracelet on Bojkov in connection with one of the cases against him related to gambling activities. The decision was reached after the jury deliberated for more than an hour.
