President Rumen Radev Tuesday congratulated Iliana Ivanova on her appointment as European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Radev’s Press Secretariat said.
“The presidential institution is ready for constructive dialogue and support for the key policies in your portfolio,” Radev said, highlighting opportunities for the development and implementation of scientific innovative excellence in Bulgaria’s and the EU’s economy. The President wished Ivanova success in achieving the priorities she has set.
Ivanova’s appointment follows the resignation of Mariya Gabriel as Commissioner in May to become Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Ivanova was appointed for the remainder of the term of office of the Commission, which runs until October 31, 2024.
On September 12, the European Parliament approved Iliana Ivanova’s appointment after successful hearings by the Culture and Education Committee and the Industry, Research and Energy Committee.
