Twenty-six autographed photographs of some of the emblematic projects by Bulgarian-born environmental sculptor Christo (1935-2020) will be exhibited at Sofia’s Anel Museum Gallery between September 21 and October 10, 2023, the gallery said.
The display, titled “Christo: Poetics of the Unusual”, presents the artist’s remarkable artistic vision and transforming installations. It beckons visitors to immerse themselves in the author’s monumental works that defy human perceptions of space, time, matter and boundaries, the organizers said.
The collection “traverses the intricate visual route from the monumental Wrapped Reichstag in Berlin to the ephemeral Surrounded Islands in Miami,” the Museum said, adding that Christo’s wrapping installations redefine human understanding of familiar structures and landscape.
“By the artistic gesture of wrapping buildings, landmarks and ever entire islands, Christo challenges us to see the familiar in a new light, invites us to call into question the boundaries between art and architecture,” the Anel team says.
